I fed Orijen Senior Dog Food 6kg to my two senior Pomeranians, Coffee and Eva, but not as an everyday, long-term food. Mainly because, let’s be honest, it’s expensive. I like rotating their meals anyway, switching between wet food, dry food, and different brands to keep things interesting and balanced for them.
That said, whenever Orijen Senior enters the rotation, it’s very obvious how they feel about it.
The moment I open the bag, they get really excited. That kind of reaction already tells me a lot. For a senior-specific formula, they genuinely loved the taste, which isn’t always the case with foods made for older dogs.

Because both of my Poms have a collapsed trachea, I never feed dry kibble completely dry. I always add something, usually dog-safe bone broth or sometimes just plain warm water. This softens the kibble and makes it much easier for them to eat without choking, gagging, or coughing. With Orijen Senior, this method worked really well, and they had no trouble finishing their meals.
One thing that surprised me was how much their coat improved. I already knew Orijen uses high-quality ingredients, but I honestly wasn’t expecting to see a noticeable difference in their fur, especially since they’re seniors. Their coat became shinier and healthier-looking, which was a really nice bonus. Their energy levels also went up, which is great… although I do get a bit nervous when they feel too energetic, because too much exertion can trigger coughing due to their condition.
When it comes to digestion, it was mostly good. Their stools were generally fine, but one of my Pomeranians sometimes had a harder time passing stool. When that happens, I just make sure she gets a bit of extra fiber from vegetables like broccoli or other dog-safe veggies. On the other hand, if I add too much broth or water, my other Pom tends to get diarrhea, so I had to adjust the liquid carefully. Interestingly, they don’t have these same stool issues with Orijen Small Breed, which makes me think this is more related to their age than the food itself.
Overall, Orijen Senior Dog Food 6kg is a really good dog food (available sizes: 2kg / 10.6kg | 4.5lb / 13lb / 23.5lb), nutrient-dense, palatable, and clearly high quality. The only real downside for me is the price. Because of that, I usually buy it when I have extra budget, or I mix it with my home-cooked dog food to make it last longer while still giving them the benefits.
If budget allows, I would absolutely keep this in regular rotation. And yes, Coffee and Eva were definitely fans. If you’re considering Orijen for your senior dog, I’d say it’s worth trying, especially if you’re okay with premium pricing for premium ingredients.
